Tom Hardy praising Joel Edgerton in the January issue of GQ Australia - with Joel on the cover. There’s a lot of love here. ♥
“When Joel tore his MCL, the shoot changed and went south really fast”, his co-star Tom Hardy tells me from the set of the new Batman. “Joel was so bummed. Obviously he was in a lot of pain, but it wasn’t his pain that was on his mind. No, he felt he’d let the team down.”
“We need more actors in our generation like Joel”, says Hardy, who will shortly become a household name himself in Australia when he reprises Mel Gibson’s Mad Max in George Miller’s reboot. “Joel is an actor’s actor, a man’s man. He’s got a hint of the old classic moviestar with none of the cheesiness - like a Steve McQueen or a Paul Newman type. Yes, he’s tough and can bite I’m sure, but there’s no spite in Joel. And he’s smart, grown-man smart. He’s a serious piece of work not to mention a film-maker. And he’s not just a face to green-light production. He makes, develops, writes and produces, directs and acts. He’s an implementer.”
“His star rising slow is a great sign”, agrees Hardy. “Long may it burn and let his career unfold and stay strong and solid. I look forward to watching him shine.”
